As a millennial, the bulk of my childhood was in the 1990s. I remember as a time of peace, optimism, and technological dynamism. The challenge is the prosperity of that decade was a golden age that American society has struggled to duplicate in the 21st century. Over the next few weeks, I will be doing a series where I analyze the great economic booms in both the US and other countries. What did these countries do right to set themselves up for prosperity and what lessons can be learned to set ourselves up for a brighter future.
The first two videos, I cover the 1990s. The first one is from an American perspective and the second one from a British one. Both the US and the UK have struggled to provide a similar level of success post-2001, and many Gen Z and millennials are jaded from not having any memories of true prosperity in their adult lives. Hopefully my analysis is a start of a greater discussion on focusing on what succeeds versus just what fails.
